Bio-Calcium + D3 + K has been approved by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration as a nutritional supplement. It has been marketed since 1995.


Because of regulatory differences from country to country, the dosages in this preparation may vary in some countries.



General information

One tablet of Bio-Calcium + D3 + K contains 500 mg of calcium, 5 µg of vitamin D3 and 35 µg of vitamin K, corresponding to 63%, 100% and 50% of the recommended daily allowance in Denmark.


The calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K in Bio-Calcium + D3 + K are all important for the preservation of bone mass and bone strength and, thus, for the prevention of osteoporosis. One tablet contains 500 mg of pure calcium per tablet in the form of easily absorbed calcium sources: calcium citrate malate is the form of calcium that has the best known absorbability while calcium carbonate is the most concentrated source of calcium (40% pure calcium) and has a good absorbability NETQUOTEVAR:11.


In addition, each tablet contains 5 µg of vitamin D which helps to increase the absorption of calcium in the small intestine [28,30] and 35 µg of vitamin K which stimulates the formation of bone tissue [37,38]. The high content of calcium and vitamin D per tablet makes it possible to achieve an adequate intake with one or, at the most, two tablets per day, depending upon age and diet.


Bio-Calcium + D3 + K should be taken in conjunction the meal of the day that contains iron or taken between meals or taken at bedtime in order to limit the inhibiting effect of calcium on iron absorption NETQUOTEVAR:7. Individuals with iron deficiency should be aware that increased intakes of calcium are thought to reduce the absorption of iron considerably

Vitamin D3 (also known as cholecalciferol) is a fat soluble vitamin which plays an important role in maintaining blood levels of calcium.
The majority of vitamin D in the body is created during skin exposure to sunlight, but can also be found in egg yolk, fish oils and oily fish such as salmon, herring and mackerel. Cholecalciferol is an animal source of vitamin D3.
