Bio-Culture® has been approved by the Danish Medicines Agency as a medicinal preparation in the category of "Natural remedies" since 14 April 1998.

Bio-Culture® is a pro-biotic preparation that is based on the lactic acid bacteria known as Lactobacillus acidophilus La-5 and Bifidobacteria lactis Bb-12.

The human intestinal system contains a complex composition of bacteria. The lactic acid bacteria represent a considerable percentage of the total bacteria. The intestinal bacteria content of healthy individuals who are not exposed to excessive stress is relatively constant. The composition of the intestinal bacteria is kept constant, inter alia, by the lactic acid bacteria`s production of lactic acid, acetic acid and various anti-bacterial substances that have an inhibiting effect on undesirable forms of bacteria like coli-bacteria. Lactic acid and acetic acid reduce the pH in the intestine and stimulate peristalsis which speeds up the passage of food through the intestine, thus reducing the amount of time that the system is exposed to potentially harmful substances such as carcinogens
