Bio-Lipoic Acid is marketed by Pharma Nord in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden and Thailand.

Alpha-Lipoic acid was tentatively classified as a vitamin following its isolation but was later found to be synthesized by animals and humans NETQUOTEVAR:10.

Alpha-Lipoic acid and its reduced form, dihydrolipoic acid, are effective as both fat-soluble and water-soluble antioxidants, which make them unique NETQUOTEVAR:9. Antioxidants like beta-carotene, vitamin C and E have their effects in either the body`s aqueous phase or its lipid phase but not in both. Alpha-Lipoic acid scavenges hydroxyl radicals, singlet oxygen, hypochlorous acid, peroxynitrite and nitric oxide. In addition to the reactive oxygen species scavenged by alpha-Lipoic acid, dihydrolipoic acid scavenges peroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals [9,10].

Dihydrolipoic acid reduces other antioxidants from their oxidized or radical forms, thus regenerating them (including glutathione and vitamin C directly and vitamin E indirectly) NETQUOTEVAR:9.


Alpha-Lipoic acid has a range of effects that appear to make it an ideal therapeutic antioxidant for treatment of brain and neurodegenerative disorders in which free radical processes are involved, not least of which is its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and be reduced in brain tissue NETQUOTEVAR:11.


Pharma Nord`s Bio-Lipoic acid contains 50 mg alpha-Lipoic acid per tablet. The recommended dosage of Bio-Lipoic acid is one to two tablets per day. Observed therapeutic effects have been seen at a relatively high dose, i.e., 600 mg per day (= 12 tablets of Bio-Lipoic Acid)

What is Methionine? Methionine is an essential amino acid, the basic building blocks from which proteins in the body are constructed. Methionine cannot be produced in the body, and must be obtained from the diet or via supplementation; dietary sources include meat, fish, milk, cheese, peanuts and whole lentils. What does methionine do? Methionine is essential for normal metabolism and growth. Are there adverse effects from taking methionine? Methionine is generally well tolerated, but may rarely cause nausea and/or vomiting. There are no reported drug interactions. Methionine should not be taken by individuals with manic depression, acidosis or severe liver damage. Animal studies have shown that the toxic effects only begin to manifest at a methionine intake greater than 350mg/Kg body weight.

About Pharma-Nord Bio-Methionine The methionine supplement produced by Pharma-Nord, Bio-Methionine 500mg is manufactured under Danish pharmaceutical control, and contains 500mg of methionine in the most bio-active form (l-methionine). The recommended intake is 1-2 tablets (500-1000mg) daily. As amino acid supplements are most effectively absorbed when they do not have to compete with amino acids from the digestion of high protein foods, this supplement is best taken at least one and a half hours before meals (first thing in the morning or at bedtime may be best).
